SELL FROM ANOTHER STATE
HOMEOWNER GUIDE

Questions from miles away.

Practical answers for owners considering an off-market sale of a house in another state.

Can I sell a house when I live in another state?

You can start a potential sale with a conversation and property information from where you live. Inspection access and the requirements for signing and closing need to be confirmed for the actual transaction.

Which properties do you consider?

We review houses in the service areas listed on the homepage. We do not buy properties currently listed for sale on the MLS, condos or apartments. Tell us the address and property type so eligibility can be reviewed.

What should I include in the first inquiry?

Include the address, occupancy, what you know about the condition and your preferred timing. Identify your connection to the house. Do not send identification documents, alarm codes, lockbox details or sensitive tenant information.

Will I have to travel for closing?

The closing office should confirm your options before you make travel plans. Do not assume a visit is required or that remote signing is guaranteed. Documents, location and transaction requirements affect the arrangements.

Do I need to clean or repair the house first?

You can discuss an as-is purchase using the current condition. Be clear about known issues and anything you want to leave behind. Repairs, cleanout and belongings should be reflected in the written terms if a purchase proceeds.

Can I ask about a house with tenants?

Yes. Explain the occupancy, lease and management arrangements. Do not assume a tenant must move out before an initial discussion. Any access, notices or possession questions should be handled with an appropriate local professional.

Is the offered price the amount I will receive?

Not necessarily. Mortgage payoffs, liens, costs and other amounts due can affect your proceeds. Review the allocation of costs and estimated closing statement with the professionals handling the transaction.

How quickly could a sale close?

That depends on the property review, inspection, title requirements and agreed terms. Explain your preferred timeline early, but treat dates as provisional until the relevant steps and conditions are confirmed.

Can I ask about an inherited or co-owned house?

Yes. Explain your role and who else is involved. The closing professional or your attorney must confirm authority and required signers. Starting a conversation does not establish permission to commit other owners.

Does contacting you commit me to selling?

No. A property inquiry is a starting point. Decide whether a proposal fits only after reviewing its price, conditions and costs. A completed transaction depends on an agreement and its requirements.
